RCC staff and fellows spend a pleasant afternoon picking strawberries on the outskirts of Munich. Hofreiter, a family-run farm, has operated a pick-your-own-berries scheme—whereby visitors pay for their fruit by the kilogram—since its establishment in 1976. This activity is said to have increased in popularity among locals in recent years: perhaps, as explored in our recent Perspectives issue on food localization, they are supporting local produce under the impression that is more sustainable?
