CfA: General Operations Internships at the RCC

The RCC is currently looking for interns to start in September 2017.

The deadline for the September internship has been extended to 14 July 2017.  

Since its founding in 2009, the Rachel Carson Center has become one of the world’s most prominent and relevant research centers in the environmental humanities. Our mission is to advance research and discussion on the interrelationship between humans and nature. We contribute to public and scholarly debates about past transformations and future challenges in environment and society, harnessing the interpretative power of the humanities (and social sciences) to contextualize technologies, economies, and policies.

CfA: General Operations Internships at the RCC

Applications will be considered for internships beginning in September 2016.

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, a joint project of the LMU and the Deutsches Museum, is a flagship institution for international humanities research in Germany. We contribute to public and scholarly debates about past transformations and future challenges in environment and society, harnessing the interpretative power of the humanities (and social sciences) to contextualize technologies, economies, and policies.

Our internships provide candidates the opportunity to gain insight into the administration of an acclaimed academic institution within a highly international setting. Interns support staff in the areas of:

  • Contributing to our digital portal
  • Working on our publications
  • Writing conference reports
  • Editing videos
  • Coordinating our social media presence
  • Preparing and executing conferences and events
  • Fulfilling general office duties

CfA: Internships at the RCC

The RCC is a joint project of the LMU and the Deutsches Museum. An internship here provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in working in an academic institution, as well as gaining valuable skills in the following fields:

• organizing conferences and events
• researching for our digital portal
• working on our publications
• writing conference reports
• editing videos
• coordinating our social media presences
• general office duties

Requirements
The successful candidate will speak and write English fluently; s/he will also have a demonstrated interest (relevant course work/degree/seminar papers) in environmental humanities or sciences.

Worldview: Transient Lifestyle, Everlasting Environmental Impacts: Reflections from my Time in Munich

Standing in my grandparents’ kitchen at a family gathering on a sunny winter’s day in Iowa I overheard my uncle ask my cousin, who was around my age, the seemingly simple question: “So where are you living right now?” I cringed, grateful that I wouldn’t be the one to have to muster up a succinct answer. As a young adult, this is a rather difficult question that leaves me reflecting on something that is supposed to be an integral part of my identity: where I live. I perked up my ears in anticipation of my cousin’s answer, eager to hear how he would respond. His reply was a simple “it depends.”

CfA: Internships at the Rachel Carson Center

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society is accepting applications for its internship program! We offer two types of internships for enrolled students: one for students enrolled in BA studies at LMU Munich and one for those from other institutions. The RCC is a flagship institution for international humanities research in Germany and gives interns the chance to work alongside Carson Fellows from all over the world and gain insight into a wealth of projects within the environmental humanities. An internship at RCC provides students with the opportunity to gain experience working in an academic institution, contributing to tasks such as conference organization, research projects for our digital portal or Center publications, writing conference reports, and working on our social media presence, as well as general office duties.

The RCC offers a small stipend as well as assistance with travel expenses for those interns who do not already reside in Munich.
